Amongst the highest and most inaccessible peaks of the Majella National Park lives the rare Apennine Chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica ornata). Living here today is the largest population of this endemic subspecies of the Apennines. Its survival depends on rocky environments, steep and impervious, to which the Chamois is remarkably well adapted.
